The Myths About Weight Loss Nobody Talks About
If you’ve been on the weight loss rollercoaster for years, you’ve probably heard it all:
“Just eat less and move more.”
“It’s all about willpower.”
“You just need to want it bad enough.”
I used to believe these things too. I thought I was failing because I wasn’t trying hard enough. Truth? Those beliefs were the very things keeping me stuck.
Let’s talk about the biggest myths I wish someone had called out sooner.
Myth #1: If You Can’t Stick To It, You’re Weak
I spent years thinking my lack of results meant I was broken. That I didn’t have the discipline or the grit.
But here’s what I learned: the human body is wired to fight weight loss. Your hormones, appetite signals, and metabolism all push back the moment you start cutting calories.
It’s not weakness. It’s biology.
Myth #2: More Exercise Means More Results
I once doubled my workouts thinking I could “outrun” my plate of pasta. All it did was leave me exhausted, sore, and craving sugar like my life depended on it.
Exercise is amazing for your heart, your mood, and your strength. But as a primary weight loss tool? It’s overrated. Without addressing nutrition and hormone balance, you’re just wearing yourself out.
Myth #3: You Have To Give Up Everything You Love
If I had a dollar for every time someone told me “just skip dessert forever” I’d be retired.
Restriction only makes you want it more. It’s human nature. That’s why the all-or-nothing diets never last - because you’re not learning how to live with balance.
I lost 53 pounds and still enjoyed champagne, pasta, and dinner out with friends. The key is learning how to fit those things in without letting them run the show.
Myth #4: Medications Are Cheating
This one hit me hard when I started exploring GLP-1s. The judgment, the whispers, the unsolicited opinions.
Here’s what I decided: if there’s a safe, science-backed tool that can help me reach my goals without destroying my mental health, I’m going to use it. Period.
Nobody calls glasses “cheating” for bad vision. Nobody calls braces “cheating” for crooked teeth. Support is support.
The Truth That Changed Everything
Once I let go of the myths, I realized something powerful: my worth was never tied to my weight.
The goal isn’t to punish yourself into a smaller body. The goal is to create a life that feels good to live in.
For me, that meant finding tools that worked with my body, not against it. And that’s when everything changed.
